Biden takes veiled shot at RFK Jr. and Republicans amid COVID surge

President Joe Biden took a shot at leaders in “both parties” for spreading doubt about COVID-19 vaccines Wednesday as the country stares down another surge.

Biden, speaking at a meeting with his Council of Advisers on Science and Technology, opened his remarks by urging lawmakers to fund the government so that some people don’t lose healthcare access amid the recent spike in coronavirus cases.

The president, who recently recommended people receive another COVID-19 booster, then proceeded to press leaders in both parties, and outside of the government, to tone down “inflammatory” comments about the coronavirus.

“What leaders say matter, in terms of people’s confidence and things they’re not sure about,” Biden stated. “You saw what happened with regard to the health crisis we had that cost us well over a million people, and as time began to move on, more and more voices were saying, ‘no, no, no, you don’t need to get that shot.”

Biden’s comments appeared directed at former President Donald Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, and Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“We have a new strain of COVID now, and we have answers for it,” he continued. “But I just would urge those in public life and both political parties and no political party to be cautious about some inflammatory things you say about this because people’s lives are at stake.”

Though Biden is expected to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2024, he is being primaried by Kennedy, whose modest support from liberals and conservatives is likely due to his staunch anti-vaccine stance.
