Biden walks offstage during campaign stop to play with baby – Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden walked over to greet and play with a baby in the crowd during a campaign event in Phoenix, Arizona, on Tuesday.

Biden walked off the stage during the event as his campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, was speaking at an event aimed at Latino voters held at a Mexican restaurant in the Grand Canyon State.

The president could be seen playing with the baby and talking with the mother as Rodriguez discussed the importance of Latino voters for Biden’s reelection effort.

Rodriguez’s remarks were followed up by Luis Reyes, a student at Arizona State University who introduced the president. Biden then walked back onstage and joked that he “couldn’t resist” the baby in the crowd.

“Well, folks, I have to tell you straight up,” Biden said after taking the stage. “I like you all, but I couldn’t resist that little baby.”

Biden is a father of four, including two deceased children, and a grandfather of seven.

During his event in Phoenix, the president attempted to woo Latino voters by saying they are “the reason why, in large part, I beat Donald Trump” and emphasized their importance.

Biden made visits to Nevada and Arizona on Tuesday, both key swing states in which he beat former President Donald Trump but is now trailing behind in most recent polls. When Biden defeated Trump in Arizona in 2020, he was the first Democrat to win the state in a presidential election since 1996, and he is looking to repeat the feat in November.

The event also comes after months of brutal polling showing Biden losing with key minority groups, including Latinos, in his fight for another four years in the White House.
