Border officials seize over $900,000 worth of cocaine in Texas – Washington Examiner

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Texas announced on Monday the seizure of more than $930,000 worth of cocaine at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility.

The seizure occurred Friday after at least one CBP officer at the facility identified a tractor-trailer attempting to enter the United States from Mexico, according to a CBP news release.

A manifest carried by the driver of the vehicle has not been confirmed.

The tractor-trailer was referred for additional screening, and an inspection, which included a canine team and nonintrusive inspection equipment, led to the discovery of the drugs.

“Officers extracted 50 packages of alleged cocaine weighing 121.87 pounds [55.28 kg] concealed within the shipment of concrete blocks,” the release read.

The drugs were seized, and special agents have launched a criminal investigation, according to CBP.

“The criminal element continues to find new ways to smuggle narcotics into the United States but our CBP officers used all available tools and resources to successfully thwart this smuggling attempt,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry said.
