Boston Mayor Michelle Wu ‘swatted’ on Christmas after ‘electeds of color’ holiday scandal

Democratic Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said she was the victim of a swatting call on Christmas, only weeks after she caused controversy with her “electeds of color” Christmas party.
A man called the Boston Police Department early Monday evening, claiming he had shot his wife and tied her up alongside another man at Wu’s address. The false report prompted a response by emergency services. The mayor said her family has had to deal with swatting attempts and is used to it.

“For better or worse, my family are a bit used to it by now, and we have a good system with the department,” Wu told Boston news outlet WBUR.
The swatting call on Wu comes weeks after she courted controversy with an “Electeds of Color Holiday Party,” which excluded white members of the city council. The invitation for the event was sent to all members of the city council by mistake, prompting Wu to apologize for the invitation going to non-invitees.
“We’ve had individual conversations with everyone, so people understand that it was truly just an honest mistake that went out in typing the email field,” Wu said ahead of the party.

Several elected officials were swatted on Christmas, with two House Republicans also sharing their unexpected visits on the holiday.
Reps. Brandon Williams (R-NY) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had police show up at their homes. Williams said police had contacted him before arriving and that he left them with “homemade cookies and spiced nuts,” while Greene said it was her eighth time being swatted and that police should not “have to deal with this.”
