BREAKING: Alina Habba Resigns as US Attorney for New Jersey After Appeals Court Ruling, Announces New Role
On Monday, Alina Habba announced she has stepped down from her role as US Attorney for the District of New Jersey after the Third Circuit Court of Appeals disqualified her.
The Trump nominee said she will still serve in the Justice Department in another role.
“My fight will now stretch across the country. As we wait for further review of the courts ruling. I will continue to serve the Department of Justice as the Senior Advisor to the Attorney General for US Attorneys,” Habba said in a statement.

In August US District Judge Mathew Brann, an Obama appointee, said Alina Habba is “not lawfully holding the Office of US Attorney” of New Jersey.
The Pennsylvania-based federal judge oversaw a challenge to Alina Habba’s authority because the judges in New Jersey had a conflict of interest after they ousted her from her position as interim US Attorney last month.
A group of federal judges over the summer declined to extend Alina Habba’s term as interim US Attorney of New Jersey after Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries launched a pressure campaign to oust her.
