BREAKING: US House Votes to Pass the SAVE Act to Require Voter ID and Proof of Citizenship in Elections – ONLY 1 Dem Votes Yes

U.S. Congress members vote on Senate Bill 1383, displaying party totals and time remaining for the vote in the House chamber.

The US House of Representatives voted on Wednesday evening to once again pass the SAVE America Act, which will require proof of citizenship and voter ID to vote in federal elections.

The final vote total was 218-213 with only one Democrat, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), voting in favor.

While it is not expected to pass in the US Senate due to the filibuster’s 60-vote threshold, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna recently signaled that Senate leadership is moving toward nuking the so-called “Zombie Filibuster” and using the standing filibuster rule to send the legislation to President Trump’s desk.

Under a standing filibuster, senators who want to delay a bill must actually stand, speak, and debate.

Once the debate ends, only 50 votes are needed for passage.

However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune recently dumped cold water on the idea, reportedly dismissing it. “There aren’t anywhere close to the votes” to change the rule, he said.

Additionally, according to Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), only 44 GOP Senators have agreed to cosponsor and vote in favor of the bill. Notably, leader Thune isn't even on board.

This is a developing story.
