A coffee shop in San Francisco apologized Wednesday after a video went viral on social media showing staff harassing a Jewish woman after she informed them about antisemitic graffiti in the bathroom.
A woman, who the New York Post reported is Jewish, informed staff at Farley’s Coffee about graffiti written on the bathroom mirror and diaper station that said “Zionism = Fascism,” “genocide” and “3,000 murdered,” but the employees proceeded to tell her “Free Palestine” and initially refused to let her go back into the restroom to take pictures. The coffee shop said in a post on Instagram that the incident “does not reflect our values” and that it is taking “corrective measures” with staff. “We do not support hate speech; this does not reflect our values,” the post reads. “After a customer used the bathroom and wished to return to document the graffiti, they were initially denied access and then allowed to re-enter … The staff handled this situation poorly and we apologize for this error and the distress caused to the customer.”

The video was first posted by the watchdog group StopAntisemitism, which said in a separate post on Thursday that they took the video down after the shop’s apology at the request of the woman who had been harassed. The video shows three staff members, two wearing masks, telling the woman that the bathroom is private property and that she needs to leave.
“I know Israel loves taking private property and saying it’s their own,” a male staff member said.
“You’re not going to let me into the restroom?” the woman asked.
“You’re also misgendering them, so I need you to leave,” a female staff member replied.
The female employee told the woman that all she was going to get was a “video of it saying that Zionism is an apartheid system, because it is,” according to the video. They proceeded to let the woman go into the restroom after she demanded to know why, if they agreed with the graffiti, “Are you afraid of me taking a picture of it?”
“History didn’t start in 1948, lady,” the male employee said while the woman filmed the graffiti in the bathroom, referring to the creation of the Jewish state.
