Carjacker Shoots Ex-Trump Official, Police Say

A carjacker shot a former Trump official in D.C. on Monday during a crime spree, police said.

Mike Gill, who was chief operating officer of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under former President Donald Trump, was hospitalized in critical condition after a carjacker shot him, according to Fox5 Washington D.C.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene at the 900 block of K Street NW — just a few blocks from the White House — after entering Gill’s car and shooting him, the outlet reported. The suspect reportedly shot and killed the owner of a Chrysler 200 a few blocks away after wounding Gill, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Two New Carrollton police officers shot the suspect dead Tuesday morning, according to the outlet.

Gill is currently the senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council. The married father of three previously served as the Republican representative on the D.C. “The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children. You can’t know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina,” Gill’s family said in a statement after the shooting.

Violent crime is on the rise in D.C., having increased by 39 percent in 2023. During the same period, robberies surged by 67 percent and motor vehicle theft by 82 percent, according to police crime statistics.
