CBP officers capture $1 million in hard narcotics smuggled from Mexico in Audi

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Texas seized more than $1 million in hard narcotics Sunday that was smuggled from Mexico in an Audi.

The capture occurred when officers assigned to the Camino Real International Bridge spotted a suspicious 2009 Audi TT attempting to enter the United States, according to a CBP release.

“The vehicle was selected for further examination. Following non-intrusive inspection system and K-9 inspections, CBP officers discovered 34 packages concealed within the quarter panels of the vehicle,” the release read.

At least 78 pounds of cocaine was discovered by officers, and the street value of the narcotics is estimated to be $1,042,034.

“Narcotic interdiction continues to be a key component in the CBP border security mission,” Pete Beattie, acting port director of Eagle Pass Port of Entry, said.

“This significant seizure demonstrates the result of our officers’ diligent work and dedication to stopping dangerous drugs from crossing the border.”

The Audi and narcotics were seized, and special agents with Homeland Security Investigations are conducting a further investigation.
