Singer Chappell Roan‘s comments on motherhood have sparked debate after she said her friends who are mothers “are in hell.”
Roan, 27, said on the Call Her Daddy podcast episode released last week that most of her friends are married mothers. Her comments came as the United States reported a record low of 54.5 births per 1,000 women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“All of my friends who have kids are in hell,” Roan said. “I actually don’t know anyone who is like, happy and has children at this age. I have literally not met anyone who is happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept.”
Roan is dating a woman and admitted they are not at the stage in their relationship that some of her friends, who are parents, are at. Roan’s friends and partner were in her life before her sudden rise to fame after opening for singer Olivia Rodrigo.
The Call Her Daddy clip has garnered millions of views on various social media platforms, prompting parents to express their own perspectives online.
“You should not be surprised that a person as obviously deranged as Chappell Roan, with the types of friends she probably keeps, would have such a dumb opinion,” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk captioned a clip of the interview. “FACT: The happiest women in America, statistically, are married with kids.”

Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., has recently demonstrated a different perspective on children. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser, Elon Musk, is known for being accompanied by his son, X, while on the job. Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) have brought their children on the House floor for votes and have advocated proxy voting for new parent members.
“I want more babies in the United States of America,” Vice President JD Vance, who has three children, said at the March for Life on Jan. 24. “I want more happy children in our country, and I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them.”
THE BABY BUST HITS THE 30-SOMETHINGS
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who has nine children, teased giving “preference to communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average” in a memo released earlier this month.
Duffy’s push to encourage birthrates followed a year in which 3.6 million children were born, compared to 4.32 million at the 2007 peak.
