Charlamagne tha God admits he suffers from ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ – Washington Examiner

Radio host Charlamagne tha God admitted Tuesday that he suffers from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term related to disliking former President Donald Trump to a high degree.

The Breakfast Club host, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, discussed the recent appearance of actor Robert De Niro outside Trump’s trial on Tuesday, during which the Hollywood legend claimed that Trump would end the freedoms people in the United States “take for granted.” The move marked the first time the Biden campaign held a conference outside Trump’s hush money trial, and it was widely criticized online.

“Let the record show, I totally agree with Robert De Niro,” Charlamagne said on Fox News’s Gutfeld! “I am one of those people that suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome. I think he is a threat to democracy. I think that he led an attempted coup of this country, you know. He said he wanted to suspend the Constitution to overthrow the results of an election. At the least, that’s just not a patriotic thing to say.”

Charlamagne’s comment was referring to a Truth Social post that Trump made in December 2022 in which the former president reiterated his claim that the 2020 presidential election results were illegitimate and that this calls for the termination of all rules, “even those found in the Constitution.” Trump has denied calling for terminating the Constitution, calling it “more DISINFORMATION & LIES.”

The radio host also said he believes voters “deserve better from both parties.” The statement comes as the 2024 presidential election could end up being a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden.

Charlamagne has shared his criticism of Biden and Trump in recent interviews, arguing that “both candidates are trash” in an interview on The View earlier this month. He rejected pressure from the hosts of the talk show to endorse Biden, saying he wanted to focus on problems facing the country rather than on a specific candidate.

The radio host later lamented the current state of politics in the U.S., saying that “it’s almost like there’s either one of two extremes.”

In December 2023, Charlamagne suggested that Biden give voters “the ultimate Christmas gift” by not seeking reelection, joking that he wants him to beat Trump “the way I want him stepping in to defend me at a bar fight.”
