Charles Barkley reiterates claim black people wearing Trump’s mug shot merch are ‘idiots’ – Washington Examiner

CNN host and former NBA star Charles Barkley is continuing to attack black supporters of former President Donald Trump, adding that anyone wearing Trump’s mug shot merchandise is “a freaking idiot.”

Barkley stirred discussion online when he said over the weekend that he would punch any black person wearing Trump’s mug shot merchandise. He has since clarified his statements, stating that he “obviously” would not literally punch people, and that he believes people are free to vote for whomever they choose.

“The point I was trying to make — no, the point I was making, I wasn’t trying to make it, when Donald Trump compares his plight with that of the black person, that is what I had a problem with,” Barkley said.

In mid-February, Trump was delivering a speech at the Black Conservative Federation’s honors gala in South Carolina. During this speech, the former president claimed he had been told his numerous indictments are why he is gaining support among black voters, as they see him “being discriminated against.”

Barkley claimed that Trump’s recent comments are why he believes any black person wearing Trump’s merch is “a freaking idiot.”

“And I’m only saying ‘freakin’ idiot because they won’t let me say what I really wanna say,” Barkley said. “But you can figure it out, it starts with an F.”

The mug shot merchandise Barkley was referring to was the photo of Trump that was released by Fulton County in Georgia after the former president was indicted and charged with his attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump has used the photo to sell various different kinds of merchandise, such as T-shirts and coffee mugs.

The likelihood of Trump becoming the presidential nominee increased on Wednesday when former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley ended her presidential campaign. Only a day prior, Trump won all but one state in the various primary elections held on Super Tuesday.
