Chicago stores were rocked by a string of at least five crash-and-grab burglaries stretching across the city last week, authorities said.

One took place on Saturday just before 5 a.m. at an Urban Jungle location in the Wicker Park area, according to a report.

At about 4:47 a.m., a group of five people rammed an SUV into the store and looted it for its product, police said.

The damaged SUV was left at the scene, and the suspects fled in at least two vehicles waiting for them outside the store, the report noted.

Additional locations, all clothing stores, hit with crash-and-grabs include shops in the South Loop, River North, River East, and East Village, according to the report.

In recognition of these burglaries, Chicago police posted a community alert on Friday warning stores about the string of burglaries, and, after that, an Urban Jungle owner asked for planters to be placed outside the store.

“We were told we would have them by 2:00 p.m. but never got them,” one of the co-owners said. “Other stores got them but we were left like sitting ducks.”

The co-owner believes that the same group of criminals is responsible for the most recent string of cash-and-grabs, but authorities have not confirmed any such notion.
