Chris Christie asks voters if they want Trump, ‘a convicted felon,’ as president

2024 presidential candidate Chris Christie called former President Donald Trump “a convicted felon,” asking voters if they want someone like Trump as their president again.

Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, is running against Trump in the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential primary race, though the former president is still far ahead in polling. Christie has made a name for himself on the campaign trail as the most anti-Trump Republican candidate, stating that he does not care about people’s dislike for his vitriol for the former president.

IF RFK JR. GOES INDEPENDENT, DOES THAT HELP BIDEN OR TRUMP?

“Really, we want a convicted felon to be president of the U.S.?” Christie asked while appearing on CNBC on Wednesday. “And you have some jokers on the Hill yesterday saying let’s make him speaker. Who are these people?”

Christie’s reference to how some Republicans have asked to make Trump the speaker of the House in the wake of the House of Representatives voting to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the position. Fellow 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy seemed to express partial support for the idea, saying it “isn’t crazy” and that Congress needs “to shake things up.”

Trump has denied any proposals to become House speaker, stating that his focus “is totally on” winning the 2024 presidential election.

Besides Christie and Ramaswamy, Trump is running against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), among others. With Trump leading in the primary, it creates a potential rematch between him and President Joe Biden.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., currently running in the Democratic Party’s primary race for the 2024 presidential election, is reportedly planning to switch tickets and run as an independent in the presidential election. Kennedy released a video on Friday stating that he would visit Philadelphia on Oct. 9 “to make a major announcement.”
