Former President Donald Trump celebrated former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie dropping out of the 2024 presidential race Wednesday.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump floated that he may reverse his negative view of Christie and took the opportunity to highlight remarks the former governor made on a hot mic before announcing his exit. On the hot mic, Christie wrote off former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s chances at winning the Republican nomination.
“I hear Chris Christie is dropping out of the race today — I might even get to like him again!” Trump said. “Anyway, he was just caught on a hot mic making a very truthful statement: ‘She’s gonna get smoked…You and I both know it, she’s not up to this.’
Christie announced the end of his campaign on Wednesday, days before the Iowa caucuses.

“It’s clear to me tonight that there isn’t a path for me to win the nomination,” Christie said, “which is why I’m suspending my campaign tonight for president of the United States.”
The New Jersey Republican had centered his campaign around an opposition to Trump, and he never managed to poll significantly.
