Consumers of Batiste hair products have two days to file a claim form in a $2.5 million class-action settlement. The manufacturer of Batiste Dry Shampoo agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit over benzene found in its aerosol spray cans.

People who purchased one or more Batiste Dry Shampoo items before May 30, 2023, could be eligible to file a claim by Wednesday. The payout each beneficiary will be getting varies depending on proof of purchase. The maximum amount for those without proof is $10, which is $2 per item if participants submit a maximum of five items. With proof of purchase, applicants could be entitled to a full refund via cash or vouchers.

Batiste, along with other dry shampoos, was cited in a 2022 report from an independent lab, Valisure. The lab tested over 100 samples from 34 different dry shampoo brands, including Batiste, and found their products used what the Food and Drug Administration considers to be toxic levels of benzene.

Plaintiffs argued this exposure to the chemical found in Batiste aerosol cans heightened their cancer risk. The owner of Batiste Dry Shampoo, Church & Dwight, has denied all wrongdoing but agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle the lawsuit.

No proof of purchase is needed in order to file a claim, which can be completed here. Those who can provide proof of purchase for Batiste Bare and Clean or Batiste Light Bare products may receive a full refund.
