Class-action settlement: Deadline for CenterState Bank customers to file claim in $2.65 million settlement in three days
October 20, 2023 04:38 PM
Customers of CenterState Bank have three days to file an exclusion or objection regarding a $2.65 million class-action settlement with the bank.
The financial institution, which is now called SouthState Bank, was accused of charging illegal overdraft fees to customers, which prompted the settlement. The bank has not admitted to any wrongdoing that was alleged but agreed to the settlement to resolve the class-action lawsuit. If an affected customer wants to object to or exclude themselves from this settlement, he or she must submit a filing by Monday.

Customers affected by the settlement include those who had a checking account with the bank and were charged certain types of overdraft fees on debit transactions from April 6, 2015, to May 31, 2020.
People who were charged fees for insufficient funds or overdrafts on automated clearing house debits or checks between Aug. 18, 2015, and Aug. 21, 2020, also qualify for this class-action settlement.

Affected CenterState Bank customers who are eligible for the settlement will automatically get a prorated share of the net settlement, determined by how much they were charged in illegal fees, and customers can receive either a cash payment, account credit, or forgiveness of uncollected fees. They have three days left to opt out of this automatic settlement.
The deadline for filing an exclusion or objection to the settlement is Oct. 23, and there is an approval hearing for the settlement scheduled for Nov. 30.
