Class-action settlement: Deadline for Dude Wipes customers to file claim in $9 million settlement in nine days

November 02, 2023 02:01 PM

There are nine days for customers of Dude Wipes to file a claim from a $9 million class-action settlement with the company for allegedly misleading consumers.

The company was accused by customers of making them believe its wipes were “flushable” when they were not. Dude Products has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to this settlement to avoid litigation with the group of consumers. The court-issued deadline to file a claim in the settlement has been scheduled for Nov. 11.

Those eligible to file a claim can receive up to $0.50 per product, with a maximum of five claims per household without proof of purchase and a maximum of 40 claims per household with proof of purchase. Customers filing a claim may submit either with proof of purchase or without proof of purchase, but not both.

To qualify for a payment, an affected Dude Wipes customer must file a claim in the settlement. People who purchased the wipes between Feb. 5, 2015, and Aug. 8, 2023, are eligible for a piece of this settlement.

The court has scheduled a final approval hearing for Nov. 16, when consumers may speak about the proposed settlement. If a customer agrees to the settlement, he or she will be bound to the terms of the agreement and will give up certain rights to file claims against the company. More information about this settlement can be found on the website, which was authorized by the court.

A different class-action settlement with an upcoming deadline is for Capital One customers after a hacker gained access to millions of customers’ personal information. The deadline to claim a piece of that settlement is Nov. 27.
