November 29, 2023 12:06 PM
There are only 13 days remaining for eligible Crunchyroll users to file a claim in a $16 million settlement with the streaming service over alleged privacy violations.
The company was accused of disclosing personally identifiable information of subscribers to third parties without consent. Crunchyroll has denied it violated the law but agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation. The deadline to file a claim in the settlement is Dec. 12.

The amount an affected user can receive from the settlement is expected to be roughly $30, but it could be more or less than that estimate, according to documents filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
A person must have been a registered user or viewed a website, app, or service owned, operated, or controlled by Crunchyroll from Sept. 8, 2020, through Sept. 20, 2023, to be eligible for the settlement.

The final approval hearing for the settlement has been scheduled by the court for Dec. 19. At the hearing, subscribers will be able to speak about the proposed settlement, and it will be approved or disapproved.
Eligible users of the service must submit a claim online or through the mail in an envelope postmarked by Dec. 12. Further information on the settlement with the streaming service, including how to file a claim, can be found on the court-authorized website.
