Nineteen-year-old American tennis star Coco Gauff won the US Open women’s final on Saturday.
Gauff bested Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, and 6-2, according to NBC News.

“I just pray that I have the strength to give it my all, and whatever happens happens,” Gauff said after the match. “I just knew if I didn’t give it my all, I had no shot at winning.”
Victory seemed in doubt early on as she trailed Sabalenka, 25, and now No. 1 in the world with her appearance in the final, but Gauff refocused, played carefully, and kept her serves accurate. After each taking a set, the critical third set went by quickly and ended in Gauff’s favor.

The US Open, held in Queens, New York City, is one of the four tennis Grand Slam tournaments or majors, the others being the Australian Open, the French Open, and Wimbledon, in London. The last time an American woman won the US Open was in 2017 when Sloane Stephens defeated fellow American Madison Keys.
Gauff, a Florida native, is the first teenager to claim the US Open title since Serena Williams’s victory in 1999, five years before Gauff was born.
