A small Los Angeles County bakery was recently trashed after more than 100 looters slammed a white Kia through its front doors and pillaged the business.

The incident occurred as part of an illegal street takeover that took place at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday when the Kia backed through the entrance of Compton’s Ruben’s Bakery & Mexican Food, allowing thieves to storm in, according to a report.

Chaos then enveloped the small business as looters worked quickly to fill their arms and pockets with anything that could be deemed valuable.

Many concealed their faces with masks, hoods, or their hands, and they left with meat, groceries, lottery tickets, and scales, among other things, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Capt. Melissa Ramirez said.

Authorities were alerted to the street takeover through multiple calls detailing a car that had been set on fire outside the bakery prior to the looting, the report noted.

Many residents in the area no longer feel safe, according to the report.

“When I walked in there and saw you had taken a car and pushed the door in, that was very disheartening for me,” one local said. “People are coming in and vandalizing, it’s just scary.”

Locals are calling on both city and county leaders to do something, and they appear disheartened by an apparent lack of action.

“They’ve been out there running amok, tearing our streets up,” according to one area resident. “It’s just like, when is this gonna stop?”

Democratic Compton Mayor Emma Sharif pushed for a new ordinance that would see citations for street takeovers increase during a City Council meeting Tuesday.

“Ensuring the safety of businesses and residents in our city is our top priority,” Sharif said.

“We need to vote on this so that we can actually start implementing the changes that’s been made in the policy.”
