Conservative voting group warns flood of litigation biggest threat to 2024 elections

A conservative voter integrity group warned that a flood of litigation from left-wing organizations has the potential to profoundly affect the 2024 elections.

In a Wednesday press call, the Honest Elections Project discussed its report, released Friday, outlining safeguards to ensure voting integrity. When asked by the Washington Examiner what he believed was the single greatest threat to the integrity of the 2024 elections, Executive Director Jason Snead said the biggest fear is a disruptive influx of left-wing litigation.

“I think one of the biggest threats that we’re gonna face between now and November is going to be just a torrent of left-wing litigation,” he said.

He pointed to Marc Elias, a Democratic superlawyer, as the primary culprit.

“He has access to an essentially bottomless pit of resources,” Snead said. “If he wants to file a lawsuit, he can, and he files the way that I file press releases. He just put out a report a few days ago — he’s already tracking 70 voting cases, roughly 70 voting cases, across the country. All of these are related to the voting process. And in the report, he said that he expects there to be more. Now, more than 50 of those 70 cases have been brought by the left, and when the left’s leading lawyer — who has unlimited funds — says there’s going to be more cases, I think that we should all take him at his word.”

“We saw the chaos, we saw the confusion, we saw the rules changes that Elias and his operation were able to impose on states through the litigation process of 2020,” he continued. “And they’re already starting that up again this year.”

Snead said that the goal of such efforts was to “weaponize the election system” from all angles.

“Litigation is the way that they’re weaponizing it from the outside, trying to rewrite rules and force changes, but then they’re also working from the inside through our elections administrators,” he said. “So this constant attempt to change the rules and by any means necessary is a real danger to us. If we’re thinking about what happens between now and when people start voting in the November 2024 election cycle.”

Elias has been a thorn in the Republicans’ side for years, reaching his zenith during Trump’s presidency. The lawyer was a key figure in pushing the discredited Steele Dossier, attempting to link Trump to Russia. As stated by Snead, he played a major role in legal efforts to change election laws during the 2020 presidential election.

He was ousted from President Joe Biden’s team last year amid disagreements.
