Cornel West says establishment has ‘good reason to be afraid’ of third-party candidates

Independent presidential candidate Cornel West said the establishment of both major political parties has “good reason to be afraid” of him and other third-party candidates in the 2024 election.

While speaking on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday, West responded to claims that Democrats are worried third-party candidates may hurt President Joe Biden’s chances for reelection next year, saying the regime in power, on both sides of the aisle, “denies the truth.”

“I think they have good reason to be afraid because anybody who wants to speak the truth when you have a regime in power that denies the truth, anybody who seeks justice, who runs away from justice, they ought to be afraid,” West said.

“But that’s for the Republican Party, and that’s for the Democratic Party. Both of them shot through corruption,” he added.

West added he is “standing” for truth and justice in his bid to be elected president next fall.

“And I’m just trying to stand for truth and justice, my dear sister, as a fallible, finite human being,” he added. “That’s what I’m standing for. And that’s what I’m gonna live and die for.”

West, who originally ran for the Green Party’s nomination but switched to independent, is one of a handful of declared and possible third-party candidates Democrats and Republicans fear could play a spoiler in the 2024 election.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and rumors of a candidate from the centrist group No Labels also have the two parties concerned ahead of next fall’s presidential election. In several past elections, third-party hopefuls hurt candidates from one of the major parties and allowed the other major party’s candidate to sail to victory.
