Country star Darius Rucker taken into custody on drug charges

Country star and frontman for Hootie & the Blowfish Darius Rucker was briefly taken into custody in Tennessee Thursday on drug charges.

The award-winning artist was arrested on one count for violating Tennessee vehicle registration law and two counts of simple possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance, according to a Friday report citing the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

All of the charges against Rucker are misdemeanors, the report noted.

The type of drug Rucker was allegedly carrying at the time has not been confirmed.

Shortly after his arrest, the singer and songwriter posted a $10,500 bond, and his attorney, Mark Puryear, claims Rucker is “fully cooperating with authorities related to the misdemeanor charges.”

Rucker’s former girlfriend, comedian Kate Quigley, did not share Puryear’s sentiment.
