CPAC conservative ‘ratings’ give edge to Jordan over Scalise

The conservative ratings of the two leading candidates running for House speaker as well as those supporting them give the edge to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) over House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).
In the latest ratings released by CPAC’s Center for Legislative Accountability, Scalise has a lifetime 91.43% rating and Jordan a 100% rating on the critical issues the conservative political group charts.

In the most recent rating, Scalise had an 82% rating, dragged down by votes “against conservatives” on some key spending issues. Jordan’s recent rating was 100%.
CPAC also sized up for Secrets the ratings of those who have endorsed the two leading candidates who are campaigning to replace Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), ousted this week by hard-liners.

The 17 who have backed Jordan have an average CPAC rating of 89%. The 15 House Republicans who have endorsed Scalise have an average CPAC rating of 80%.
It is unclear what effect endorsements will have in the race, though it is considered important because conservatives, especially fiscal hawks, led the effort to dump McCarthy. Late Thursday, former President Donald Trump endorsed Jordan.
CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp told us, “Leadership races usually come down to personal trust between the members of the conference with a large dash of self-interest. However, it’s interesting in this match-up because Jim came to power as a House Freedom Caucus stalwart and Steve through elected leadership.”
Looking at how his group rated those endorsing Scalise and Jordan, Schlapp added, “Clearly these endorsements give the ideological edge to Jordan and this vote has huge overtones on how intently grassroots conservatives believe the House majority is listening to their desire to fight against funding the weaponized bureaucracy.”
