Daniel Cameron says Kentucky governor’s race is ‘crazy vs normal’

Kentucky Republican gubernatorial candidate Daniel Cameron is pitching the race between himself and incumbent Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) as a battle between “crazy vs. normal.”

Cameron, speaking on Fox News’s Fox & Friends First on Friday, said ahead of the election on Tuesday that he is “standing up for Kentucky values” in response to Beshear’s claim that he is “dangerous” because he may be too “partisan.”

“I’m standing up for Kentucky values. What is dangerous is a governor who shut down our schools and our kids have significant learning loss because of it. Look, I tell people all the time, this is not about Republican vs. Democrat. This is about crazy vs. normal,” Cameron said. “And it’s crazy to have a governor here in Kentucky who would openly endorse Joe Biden for president. But that’s what we have in Andy Beshear. It’s crazy to have a governor who would let 2,000 criminals out of jail, but that’s what we have in Andy Beshear.”

“I’m going to be the next governor of Kentucky because I’m standing up for the working men and women of this commonwealth. We’re going to get past the crazy Beshear-Biden agenda and we’re going to return to the values of Kentucky and the values that made this country great, whether it be faith, family, and community. We’re gonna get back to those things here in Kentucky after Nov. 7,” he added.

Cameron, who is currently the attorney general of the state, has been trailing Beshear in the polls, but a survey from Emerson College/FOX 56 News released on Friday showed the Republican tied 47%-47% with the incumbent governor.

The Kentucky gubernatorial election is seen as one of various bellwether races in the 2023 elections, ahead of what is likely to be a pivotal presidential election next November. Kentucky is one of two Republican-state governorships Democrats are on defense for in 2023, with the other being in Louisiana. Republican Jeff Landry won back the governorship outright for the GOP in Louisiana’s jungle primary last month.
