David Axelrod said Monday that while he doesn’t think President-elect Donald Trump is capable of working with political opponents, if he’s able to do so and fulfill his campaign promises, the result would be for the “good of the country.”
Axelrod said that while Trump’s pledges to end foreign wars, lower prices, fight crime, and secure the southern border are steep challenges, if he’s able to work with Democrats to achieve his goals, it would be beneficial to the public, according to CNN.
“If he does all those things, God bless him. Good for him … and good for the country,” he said. “If there are places where the Democrats and Republicans can cooperate, that is a positive.”
The Democratic analyst said Trump has little desire to work with Democrats and has proven so in the past and spends too much time airing grievances.

“If you read his social media feeds, that is pretty clear, even to this day. It would behoove him, as it does Democrats, to say, ‘I have bigger things to do than air my grievances and go after my enemies,’” he said. “’I want to work with people where I can.’ Let’s see if he does that.”
Axelrod was the chief strategist of former President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and was appointed senior adviser to the president under Obama.
