Oklahoma State University and the University of Texas play the Big 12 championship game on Saturday, but the weekend was off to a “very cruel” start after a dead longhorn steer was found outside an Oklahoma fraternity.
Police in Stillwater told multiple outlets on Friday that the longhorn steer was found with its stomach sliced open outside of Oklahoma State’s FarmHouse Fraternity house off campus. Photos of the dead steer show “F*** FH” written on it.

“This is a very unusual situation that’s occurred,” Stillwater Police Department spokesman TJ Low said in an interview with The Oklahoman. “We’ve never had anything like this within our jurisdiction. It’s a very cruel crime to be committed, especially right before the Big 12 championship. Nothing is worth doing that kind of crap.”
Oklahoma State University condemned the incident in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“OSU is appalled at the disturbing display of animal cruelty that occurred overnight at an off-campus location near a fraternity house. The Stillwater PD is investigating the incident, and the university’s Office of Student Support and Conduct has initiated an investigation,” the university said. “Oklahoma State expects all students to adhere to university codes of conduct, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.”

The FarmHouse Fraternity released a statement on Friday stating that the chapter was “sickened” and “surprised” by the incident. The fraternity said it discovered the carcass of the dead animal Friday morning, immediately reported the incident to local law enforcement, and is “working with them as they continue their investigation.”
“As a chapter founded on principles driven by our agricultural roots, we’re just as sickened and surprised by this incident as our peers on campus. It is disheartening to see the disregard for proper animal welfare and treatment displayed by this situation,” the fraternity wrote.

“To our knowledge, no FarmHouse member was involved in this incident and we do not condone cruelty or defacing of livestock in any manner,” the FarmHouse Fraternity continued.
Texas and Oklahoma State are scheduled to play in the Big 12 title game on Saturday at noon Eastern time in Arlington, Texas.
