Long-shot Democratic primary candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) criticized former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Wednesday for her refusal to participate in a New Hampshire debate.
Phillips, who is challenging President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination in 2024, has been critical of the Democratic National Committee and Biden for the lack of debates during the primary cycle.
“Donald Trump won’t debate. Joe Biden won’t debate. Nikki Haley won’t debate,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I will debate anyone,” he said. “Because democracy dies without debate.”
On Tuesday, Haley released a statement that she would not be participating in any more debates without either former President Donald Trump or Biden.
“The next debate I do will either be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden. I look forward to it,” Haley said.

Her new position put a planned Thursday debate held by ABC News and WMUR in jeopardy, as only Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) had confirmed he would participate. The organizers gave Haley and Trump until 5 p.m. to confirm. The debate was later canceled.
After coming in third in the Iowa caucuses, Haley told a crowd at her watch party that her campaign had turned the primary into a “two-person race” ahead of the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 23.
