Dejan Milojevic dead: Golden State Warriors assistant coach dies at 46

Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic died Wednesday morning in Salt Lake City after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday night, the team confirmed.

Milojevic was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday night after he had a heart attack while at a team dinner. He was in his third year of coaching with the Warriors.

“We are absolutely devastated by Dejan’s sudden passing,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said in a statement. “This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him. In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known.”

Milojevic, who was from Serbia, was an accomplished European basketball star. He played professionally until 2009 and distinguished himself by winning the ABA League MVP award for three consecutive years. He also earned the ABA scoring title in back-to-back seasons.

Milojevic’s death comes shortly before the Warriors were expected to play the Utah Jazz, but the game has since been postponed. A new date for the game will be announced later.
