Great Scott! An Illinois man found a DeLorean with only 977 miles on it in a Wisconsin county.

The iconic 1980s vehicle, best known for being used in 1985’s Back to the Future, was recently taken under the wing of an Illinois car restoration company. Michael McElhattan, the owner of the DeLorean Midwest restoration company, had been alerted of the 1981 vehicle’s existence in a Waukesha County barn through a phone call and decided to give it a look.

“It happened pretty quick because once I found out the car was close, and it was a low mileage car, I was excited to go take a look,” McElhattan said.

McElhattan and his social media coordinator, Kevin Thomas, decided to check out the car and were informed by the nephew of the car’s original owner that they wanted to sell it. Aside from a mouse found inside, the vehicle was otherwise in very good condition.

“The condition of the leather, the condition of the instruments, cluster in the dash, and a lot of places where you see sun damage — and that’s one of the big killers on this — this car virtually has no sun damage,” McElhattan said.

The new owner said he plans to restore the vehicle, which he called “an adventure anybody wants to be on.”

DeLorean cars, despite their parent company going out of business in 1982, remain iconic among the public even today, likely due to the Back to the Future film series.
