Democratic Michigan State Rep. Alabas Farhat took aim at President Joe Biden on Monday over supposedly not taking a more forceful stand in favor of Palestinians.
Alabas told MSNBC host Joy Reid that the Biden administration’s rhetoric isn’t helping secure “transformational peace” within the Middle East. He said that in his district, people have “lost trust” that the Biden administration would protect them. He said that Arab Americans were promised a “seat at the table” of the Democratic Party. However, their presence has been relegated to mere “window dressing.” (RELATED: Hamas Fighters Were Promised $10,000 And An Apartment For Taking A Hostage, Captured Terrorist Tells Israelis)
He conceded that Biden calling for more humanitarian aid for Palestinians along with the turning on of electricity and water in Gaza “is really important.” However, Farhat argues that this is not enough.
“We need to talk about the ceasing of building illegal settlements, the end to an occupation, the end to an air, land, and sea blockade for the people of Gaza. That’s what’s missing in this rhetoric,” he said.
He said that his “heart breaks” when he looks at footage showing Palestinians digging through rubble to find the corpses of their loved ones after an Israeli bombing raid.
“To see the president leave out those stories, to not seek out justice for those that have died by saying we need a transformational peace deal is really, I mean it’s hurtful,” he added.
Terror group Hamas, operating out of Gaza, enacted a multi-faceted attack on Israel on Oct. 7. The Hamas rocket attacks and incursions into Israel resulted in over 1,400 deaths and over 200 abductions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately declared war on Hamas amid the attacks.
