Democratic dark money juggernaut poured $1 million into Palestinian terror-tied charity

Groups in the largest Democratic-tied dark money network in the United States steered more than $1 million in 2022 to an “anti-capitalist” charity in Arizona before announcing they won’t fill its coffers anymore due to Washington Examiner reports on the nonprofit group’s Palestinian terror ties, tax forms show.

New Venture Fund and Windward Fund, two tax-exempt organizations managed by the liberal consultancy Arabella Advisors, said in late October they would no longer give to Alliance for Global Justice, which has faced congressional scrutiny and legal pressure for its ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terror group. Financial disclosures released on Wednesday reveal that New Venture Fund directed $501,500 in 2022 to AFGJ, while Windward Fund granted it $525,000 — both for “environmental programs.”

“It is unconscionable that the Arabella network directed over $1 million dollars to Alliance for Global Justice even after reporting highlighted their ties to Palestinian terror,” said Parker Thayer, an investigative researcher for the conservative think tank Capital Research Center.

“It is not surprising, though,” he added. “Arabella is the least scrupulous of all of the Left’s dark money networks, which is probably why they are also the largest.”

The revelation comes as AFGJ faces an uncertain future due to liberal donors and payment processors jumping ship, particularly after the deadly terror attacks Hamas launched against Israel on Oct. 7, which have since killed more than 1,400 people in the Jewish state. AFGJ has been accused by watchdog groups, including Zachor Legal Institute, of providing “material support to terrorism,” the Washington Examiner reported. Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), and other federal lawmakers have raised concerns over U.S. companies working with AFGJ.

Through an arrangement called fiscal sponsorship, AFGJ provides services such as donation processing, payroll, human resources, and health insurance for anti-Israel projects, including the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, an Israeli-designated terrorist coalition that has shared staffers with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Samidoun, which was banned in Germany recently after its activists were found to be handing out candy to Berlin protesters to celebrate terrorism, has been organizing Hamas-friendly protests across the world.

AFGJ has also fundraised for the France-based Collectif Palestine Vaincra, an organization that says on its website it is partnered with the PFLP, the Washington Examiner reported. In 1997, the U.S. government designated the PFLP as a terrorist group.

New Venture Fund and Windward Fund did not respond to questions from the Washington Examiner on what its 2022 grants to AFGJ were for.

Between 2020 and 2021, New Venture Fund and Windward Fund granted $473,000 combined to AFGJ, tax forms show.

New Venture Fund President Lee Bodner said recently it is “discontinuing grants to any projects hosted by Alliance for Global Justice,” noting, “We condemn terrorism and violence against civilians in all forms and do not support any projects or provide any grants to organizations that fund terrorism.” New Venture Fund said last year its $38,000 grant in 2021 to AFGJ was for its “Philly Thrive” project, which focuses on climate change initiatives.

“It was made for the explicit purpose of helping clean up and repurpose land in Philadelphia that once housed an oil refinery,” the New Venture Fund said of the grant.

Windward Fund President Lynn McNair told the New York Post in October that the charity “is no longer providing grants to organizations that are sponsored by Alliance for Global Justice,” adding, “Our organization does not support terrorism in any form and strongly denounce any violence against civilians.”

A Windward Fund spokesperson previously said its grants to AFGJ in 2021 were “to support environmental cleanup of a site in New York City.”

Alliance for Global Justice did not return a request for comment.
