Democrats Drunk On Success Gunning For District Trump Won By 20 Points

Mary Rooke Commentary and Analysis Writer

Democrats are still riding high off their November victories and are hoping to capitalize on their momentum in deep-red territory, where they aim to pick up a much-needed U.S. House seat.

A Democratic win would not swing the majority but rather narrow it before the 2026 midterm elections, as Republicans hold a 219-213 majority in the House as of mid-November. It’s a pretty bold choice for Democrats to focus on a seat smack dab in the middle of Trump country, Tennessee. They are hoping to take advantage of a historical precedent, where the incumbent party (currently the Republicans) fares worse in off-season and midterm election cycles, and polling shows a shift towards the Democrats as the race approaches Election Day.
