It’s a pretty bold choice for Democrats to focus on a seat smack dab in the middle of Trump country, Tennessee. They are hoping to take advantage of a historical precedent, where the incumbent party (currently the Republicans) fares worse in off-season and midterm election cycles, and polling shows a shift towards the Democrats as the race approaches Election Day.
