Democrats: Spending FEMA money on illegal immigrants ‘a good idea’ – Washington Examiner

Democratic voters feel it is “a good idea” to divert Federal Emergency Management Agency emergency money to the illegal immigrant crisis, a view at odds with most of the United States.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 58% of Democrats agreed that “spending FEMA money to help immigrants is a good idea.”

What’s more, 61% of people supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential run also believe diverting the emergency funds to immigrants is a good idea.

However, overall, the polling outlet said, in results shared with Secrets, that just 29% of likely voters agreed, and among Republicans, it was even lower, at 8%.

Instead, 59% said, “It would be better for FEMA to focus on helping Americans affected by natural disasters.”

The matter is a hot one. FEMA has said it is running short of funds, and President Joe Biden plans to ask Congress for more money.

Meanwhile, the media has documented several reports of FEMA using disaster and emergency money to deal with the Biden-Harris administration’s bungling of the border. After Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation, it was reported that FEMA had spent more than $1.4 billion since 2022 to provide food, shelter, and services to immigrants.

Former President Donald Trump has made the matter a key part of his campaign speeches. FEMA has denied that the immigrant funding is the cause of the funding crisis.

Despite the controversy, the public feels pretty good about FEMA and how it has handled the duel disasters of Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene.

The polling outlet found that 61% of people have a favorable view of the crisis agency and that 57% feel it has done a good job helping victims of Hurricane Helene.
