Both CNN’s State of the Union and NBC’s Meet the Press announced Saturday that DeSantis would not appear on their Sunday programs as planned.
“We look forward to having the Governor join us on the show in the near future,” CNN wrote in its announcement.
“Gov. Ron DeSantis has pulled out of his Meet the Press appearance tomorrow morning due to what a person familiar says is a last-minute schedule change,” anchor Kristen Welker wrote on X. “Per his campaign, he will now hold an event in New Hampshire tomorrow evening. He is currently campaigning in South Carolina.”
The cancellations come three days before New Hampshire is slated to hold its primary elections, the first in the nation. The announcements lead some to believe that DeSantis is shuttering his 2024 campaign.
“Pack it up!” former President Donald Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller wrote on X.
Earlier this week, DeSantis’s campaign ads were absent from the airwaves in New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Nevada, according to ad tracking services.
The Florida governor expressed regret in not participating in more media interviews following his defeat in the Iowa caucuses last week.
“Presidential campaigns are a lot about media,” DeSantis admitted.
