Presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) proposed Tuesday what he declared would be the “strongest Iran sanctions that any state has enacted” in the wake of the terrorist attack on Israel.

“We are going to roll out for the next legislative session a proposal to increase Florida sanction on Iran and to block Iranian business in our state,” DeSantis said. “Our proposed legislation will, of course, reinforce Florida’s commitment that we don’t do business with state sponsors of terrorism, such as Iran.”

The proposed legislation will expand the ban on Florida’s investment in business in Iran to include all major sectors, including the financial, construction, manufacturing, textile, mining, and port fields, according to DeSantis.

“We’re going to prohibit state and local governments from contracting with any company on this expanded sectors list, and we will not lift these sanctions until both the president and the U.S. Congress certify that Iran has stopped supporting international terrorism and seeking to acquire weapons of mass destruction,” DeSantis said.

“These will be, by far, the strongest Iran sanctions that any state has enacted,” the presidential hopeful pledged before attacking what many are calling a weak and feeble response from the White House after the attack on Israel this weekend.

All a person could do was “just throw your hands up” at the response from President Joe Biden, according to DeSantis.

“Immediately after the attack, they had to delete a tweet from one of the State Department bureaus that said there should be no response, and then Blinken sent out a tweet calling for a ceasefire in this situation,” DeSantis said.

“What? You get massive terrorist attack, and you’re just supposed to sit there? And we all know the truth. If Hamas and Hezbollah and any Palestinian Arab simply laid down their arms tomorrow, that would result in peace,” he said. “If Israel laid down its arms tomorrow, that would result in the destruction of the Jewish state.”

For the Biden administration to respond with anything else but a unified voice in support of Israel was extremely disappointing, DeSantis said.

“Now’s the time for leadership,” the governor said. “Now’s the time for the president to be out there, to be talking about how important it is that we’re unified in the fight against terrorism. They should be talking about how it’s wrong to support policies that enrich the Iranian regime.”
