DeSantis says voters’ top concerns are economy and border: ‘Biden doesn’t seem to care’

With less than one month before the Jan. 15 Iowa caucuses, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said voters are most concerned about the economy and the border crisis.

During an appearance on Hannity, DeSantis told Fox News’s Kayleigh McEnany that he used to say the economy dominated voters’ minds but now the border is also top of mind.

“When we started the process, I would have said economy, clear one, border, clear No. 2. Now I would say economy is 1a and border is 1b. I think people are seeing the effects of the border,” DeSantis said. “Every community has become a border community.”

“Joe Biden doesn’t seem to care about that. The elites in D.C. don’t seem to care about it,” the GOP presidential candidate added. “When you talk to Iowans, as well as people in New Hampshire and other early states, there is the sense that’s accurate that the people who are running this government do not care about the people that they were elected to serve. We need to change that, and 2024 gives us an opportunity to do so.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) also joined DeSantis, noting that around 10,000 immigrants cross the border daily.

“Americans are feeling it across the country,” Roy said, noting there is a solution. “House Republicans passed HR2, a strong border security bill. The key is we need to force getting it passed and force the president to sign it.”

“And if he won’t do it, we need to elect a president who will sign that into law,” he added, pointing to DeSantis while going on to slam former President Donald Trump for “siding with Paul Ryan to try to pass an amnesty-first rather than a border security-first bill, which left us with the situation we’re facing right now.”

DeSantis continues to trail Trump, the Republican front-runner, who has maintained a significant lead in the polls for the GOP presidential nomination despite his various indictments, which include federal charges of mishandling classified documents.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all 91 felony charges.
