DeSantis tells Harris to ‘look in the mirror’ after ‘selfish’ jab as Milton approaches – Washington Examiner

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) rebutted Vice President Kamala Harris’s claim that he is being “selfish” ahead of Hurricane Milton, suggesting that the vice president should “look in the mirror” with her claim.

Harris slammed DeSantis on Monday when she said the Florida governor was politicizing hurricane relief by ignoring her calls. DeSantis, however, contended that he was not aware that Harris attempted to contact him and noted how she has “never called” Florida about storms it has dealt with during her time as vice president.

Kamala Harris really just went after Ron DeSantis for “playing political games at this moment.”

“Why all of a sudden is she trying to parachute in and inject herself when she’s never shown any interest in the past?” DeSantis asked on Fox News’s Fox and Friends. “We know it’s because of politics. We know it’s because of her campaign. I have zero time to entertain these political games. We’re going to continue to do what we need to do to prepare and respond to what may be one of the most damaging storms in the history of the United States. So she says focusing on protecting your people is selfish — I think she ought to look in the mirror.”

The governor assured that he had been in contact with both President Joe Biden and the Federal Emergency Management Agency amid these hurricanes. He added that Harris is not in the chain of command with weather operations and that she is “so full of this” in her accusations against him.

Ahead of Hurricane Milton, Florida has taken multiple steps to prepare for the storm’s landfall, including activating the Florida State Guard. DeSantis also stated that Florida is “amassing” its fuel availability to ensure there is enough fuel for those who need it.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated on Monday that it is up to DeSantis “if he wants to respond to us or not.” She also said that the White House is working with state and local officials to make sure they are prepared for Hurricane Milton.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has admitted that the agency’s funding is set to run out before the year’s end, but she assured that there is “absolutely” enough to help with both Hurricane Milton and Helene’s recoveries. It comes after Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said that FEMA “does not have the funds to make it” through this hurricane season.
