Former President Donald Trump is widely viewed as the leader of the Republican Party, but his son Donald Trump Jr. is reportedly emerging as a behind-the-scenes leader for the GOP.
A report from Axios claims Trump Jr. has become an important figure in the GOP, which recently restructured its leadership to the former president’s liking. The outlet reported that he enjoys campaigning and has become skilled at the internal politics of the GOP, adding that his support has been key for many candidates looking to attract the “MAGA” base.
“With the exception of his dad, I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone who has a stronger natural connection to our base,” Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) told the outlet.
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) also told the outlet that while he sees the elder Trump as the current party leader, he sees Trump Jr. “as building the next generation.”
Trump Jr. has a successful podcast on Rumble, Triggered, along with his frequent use of X to defend his father and go after detractors, among his other endeavors. He has also been used frequently for fundraising messages and at campaign events for the former president and Trump-aligned candidates. The outlet reported that Trump Jr. has taken a specific interest in the GOP’s fight to win back control of the Senate in November.

Trump Jr. is not the only member of the Trump family involved in the elder Trump’s 2024 campaign. His sister-in-law, Lara Trump, was elected RNC co-chairwoman earlier this year after receiving the former president’s backing.
Eric Trump has also been seen on the campaign trail several times, while Ivanka Trump has stepped back from politics after being active in Trump’s White House team. Neither of Trump Jr.’s other siblings, Tiffany Trump and Barron Trump, has been active in the former president’s 2024 campaign.
