Tax analyst Drew Johnson won the Republican primary in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District and will face Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) in a pivotal contest for control of the House.
The Associated Press called the race for Johnson at 1:38 a.m. Eastern time. With 91% of the ballots counted, Johnson led with 32% of the vote.
Johnson beat out six other GOP candidates to clinch the nomination. Other contenders included former state Treasurer Dan Schwartz, video game music composer Marty O’Donnell, and former state Sen. Elizabeth Helgelien.
O’Donnell’s loss comes despite having the support of Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV) and funding his campaign with more than $1 million of his own money. Schwartz and Johnson also loaned their own campaigns hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Johnson will face Lee in the November general election in what is a competitive district that House Republicans feel they can flip as they fight to maintain their razor-thin majority. The race is rated D+1 by the nonpartisan election forecaster Cook Political Report.
Lee is seeking a fourth consecutive term, having first taken control of the seat in 2019 from now-Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
