Enes Kanter Freedom slams Turkey’s ‘dictator’ for saying Hamas is not a terrorist group

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has condemned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for claiming that Hamas is not a terrorist group, calling it “the biggest problem in the region.”

Freedom, an advocate for human rights, argued that Erdogan wants to be “the savior of the Muslim world” but has failed to acknowledge Uyghur Muslims facing persecution in China. The former basketball player also claimed that Erdogan is the biggest problem that the Turkish region faces and that Armenians, Assyrians, and Cyprus residents could testify that the president of Turkey is a problem for the Middle East.

“Erdogan literally is the first leader in the world that came out and said Hamas is not a terrorist organization,” Freedom said. “And we’re talking about a NATO ally; think about it, think about how crazy that is. So Turkey and Iran is a safe haven for these groups, Hamas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah; they raised huge amount of money for these groups. And actually, Erdogan, dictator Erdogan, gives them Turkish passport, so they can go in and out of some of these countries out there.

Freedom also called for pressure to be put on Turkey, which is also a part of NATO, for not standing against Hamas, asking for the United States to take the initiative on the matter.

“These dictators get so much confident because our administration is so weak right now,” Freedom said. “So I’m hoping on Joe Biden or whoever to just be hard on these dictatorships.”

Erdogan claimed that Hamas is not a terrorist organization during a speech he gave on Wednesday, even though countries have stated otherwise, including the U.S. Hamas recently attacked Israel on Oct. 7, which left thousands dead and many injured.

On Saturday, Erdogan drew the ire of Israel after he claimed that the Jewish state has been “openly committing war crimes for 22 days” during a speech he gave commemorating Turkey’s 100-year anniversary.

“We will tell the whole world that Israel is a war criminal,” Erdogan said. “We are making preparations for this. We will declare Israel a war criminal.”

Seems that Turkey, particularly senior leadership, is setting itself up to be “The Squad” of NATO.

Very disappointing and destabilizing.https://t.co/rO91c9Zfyc

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has criticized Erdogan for his comments, claiming that Turkey is setting itself up to be “The Squad” of NATO, a reference to a group of Democratic lawmakers in Congress who support Palestine, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
