Eric Carmen dead: ‘Hungry Eyes’ singer dies at 74 – Washington Examiner

Musician Eric Carmen, known for hits like “All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” has died at the age of 74.

The musician’s death was announced via a statement from Carmen’s wife, Amy, which was posted to her husband’s website. No cause of death has been revealed as of Tuesday morning.

“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend,” the statement said. “It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters … Faithful and Forever.’”

The statement’s ending referenced Carmen’s song “Love Is All That Matters,” which was released in 1977. The song’s release came only a few years after the breakup of the Raspberries, the band of which Carmen was a part.

When working with the Raspberries, Carmen and the band produced multiple hit songs, including “Go All The Way,” which was both the first hit song released by the band as well as its biggest. Other hits released by the band were “I Wanna Be With You,” “Let’s Pretend,” “Tonight,” and “Overnight Sensation.”

Once going solo in the mid-1970s, Carmen continued his work in the music industry, creating songs like “All By Myself” and “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.” His most recognizable song from the 1980s is arguably “Hungry Eyes,” which was featured in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing.

Born in 1949, Carmen grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where his aunt played the violin in the Cleveland Orchestra. The musician began learning to play the violin at age 6, and would later learn the piano and guitar before playing in various rock bands in high school.
