Eric Trump responds after court testimony and blames attorney general for New York ‘going to hell’

Eric Trump pushed back on New York Attorney General Letitia James on Friday after leaving a New York City courtroom where he had just testified in a civil fraud trial over allegations his father grossly overstated his wealth for years.

He accused James of misplaced priorities, saying she was wasting taxpayer dollars by pursuing a politically motivated case against former President Donald Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate.

“It’s the very reason everybody’s moving out of New York State, and I was actually one of them,” Eric Trump said, according to a video shared on X by Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk.

Eric Trump added, “It’s sad, and it shouldn’t happen. I love this state. This state is absolutely going to hell, and it’s because of people like the attorney general of New York.”

The younger Trump said James should focus on violent crime, citing an instance of a “kid getting shot in the middle of Times Square,” an apparent reference to a 16-year-old boy who was wounded after police say a gunman shot him on Halloween night in the busy tourist hub.

Donald Trump’s three adult children, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump, have executive vice president roles at the Trump Organization and were all initially named as defendants in the case. Ivanka Trump successfully had her name dropped from it, however, after arguing relevant statutes of limitation had lapsed.

Eric Trump and Trump Jr. testified this week, Ivanka Trump is scheduled to testify Wednesday, and Donald Trump himself is set to take the stand on Monday. Ivanka Trump had appealed the subpoena compelling her testimony but lost the appeal Thursday night.

James alleged last year in a sweeping 233-page complaint that Donald Trump, his children, and other Trump Organization associates participated in a scheme to exaggerate the former president’s wealth by billions of dollars over the course of several years, in part to secure more favorable loans.

New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron, who is overseeing the case, found Donald Trump liable for some aspects of the allegations, and a nonjury trial is now taking place to assess the remaining allegations and determine whether Donald Trump will need to pay $250 million in damages.

Eric Trump said after his testimony that his family’s company has always diligently met its financial obligations and emphasized that it employed thousands of New Yorkers among its multiple properties.

“We’re going to win this thing. I promise you we’re going to win it because we haven’t done a damn thing wrong,” he said. “I’ve always been a believer that the truth comes out in the end. It will here.”
