ESPN host Pat McAfee has come to the defense of Aaron Rodgers following late-night host Jimmy Kimmel‘s threat of legal action.

McAfee defending Rodgers comes after the New York Jets quarterback jokingly suggested that Kimmel might be on Jeffrey Epstein’s flight list, prompting the late-night host to threaten him with a meeting in court. McAfee said Rodgers merely wanted to “talk s***” and was not serious about his statement.

“I can see why Jimmy Kimmel felt the way he felt, especially with his position, but I think Aaron was just trying to talk s***,” McAfee said. “Now, did it go too far? Jimmy Kimmel certainly said that was the case.”

The sports show host acknowledged that he and his guests tend to joke about a lot of things, some of which can make people “very p***ed off.” He added that he hopes Kimmel and Rodgers will be “able to settle this.”

Rodgers had joked that he would be “popping some sort of bottle” if Epstein’s flight list is released, and that some people, including Kimmel, are hoping the list will not see the light of day. Kimmel stated online that he had never once flown with Epstein and that Rodgers’s joke had endangered Kimmel’s family.

“Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court,” Kimmel warned.

It is not the first time Rodgers has created drama on The Pat McAfee Show, as he jokingly named Travis Kelce “Mr. Pfizer” after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was in a commercial promoting Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Rodgers also offered to do a debate with Kelce on vaccinations.
