Former White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews responded to a threat about donating to Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley on Wednesday by donating to the former South Carolina governor.
Former President Donald Trump warned Republicans that donating to Haley would result in a permanent ban from the “MAGA camp” in a social media post on Wednesday, claiming that Haley does not put “America first.”
Matthews, who served as deputy press secretary in the Trump administration, responded by donating to Haley and urging other people to do so.
“Done. Join me in donating to @NikkiHaley here: https://secure.winred.com/nikki-haley-for-president/home-debate,” Matthews posted to X.
The former Trump aide is one of two former staffers who testified against Trump in Congress in the aftermath of Jan. 6, 2021, and one of three who have been vocally warning against their former boss’s possible return to the White House in 2024. Matthews resigned from the White House just hours after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, later calling it “one of the darkest days in American history.”

Trump’s warning against donating to Haley came a day after he attacked Matthews’s mentor and former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany after she suggested Trump focus on uniting the Right and winning over independents instead of attacking Haley.
“I don’t need any advice from RINO Kayleigh McEnany on Fox,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Just had a GIANT VICTORY over a badly failing candidate, ‘Birdbrain,’ and she’s telling me what I can do better. Save your advice for Nikki!”
