Harris is likely to announce her 2024 running mate via video on August 6, according to Politico. Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz is among the candidates who are still on Harris’ list, MPR News reported.
The Threads post, which has garnered over 5,000 likes as of writing, purports to show a tweet from Harris labeling Trump’s father as “KKK.” “My father is black. Trump’s father was KKK,” the purported tweet, which appears to have been published on July 31, reads. Besides Threads, the claim circulated on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.
The claim is false. The purported tweet originally stems from @KamolaHarris, a parody account that has since been suspended. A close look at the purported tweet indicates it bears a label highlighting its content as “parody.” The account’s handle also misspells the current Democratic Vice President’s first name. Likewise, Check Your Fact conducted an advanced search of Harris’ verified X account @KamalaHarris, which did not generate any results for the purported remark. In addition, the remark is neither referenced on Harris’ website nor on her verified Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts.
Furthermore, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports suggesting Harris had labeled Trump’s father as “KKK.” Actually, the opposite is true. On August 2, Lead Stories reported the claim was false, tracing the purported tweet back to the same parody account on X. According to the outlet, the parody X account used to have “Kamala Harris Ghostwriter” as its display name.
