Khan said “progress is not inevitable” following Trump’s 2024 election victory, according to Politico. Khan also took aim at “racism and hatred,” the outlet reported.
The X post, which has garnered over 50,000 views as of writing, claims Khan purportedly said he and his family would leave the U.K. if Trump won the 2024 presidential election.
“London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said if Donald Trump wins the election his family will leave the UK due to the rise of the far-right and Islamophobia,” the post reads. The post features side-by-side photos of Khan and Trump but does not provide a source to support its claim.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Khan’s website or his verified social media accounts.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 13, Reuters debunked the claim. A spokesperson for Khan denied the claim’s validity to Reuters via email, labeling it “nonsense.” The spokesperson also said Khan did not make the purported remark.
