A post shared on social media purportedly shows a screenshot of a post from President-elect Donald Trump about restoring electoral integrity in Nigeria.
Verdict: False
The post did not come from Trump’s official account.
Fact Check:
Trump has announced that his nominee for FBI Director is Kash Patel in a Truth Social post, Fox News reported. Criticisms of the pick include fears that the choice will politicize the position as it kicks out the current director, Chris Wray, before is his term is completed, according to the outlet.
A post shared on Threads allegedly shows a reply to the former President of Nigeria from Trump saying he will fix the electoral system in the West African country. The post shows screenshots of the alleged social media exchange.
The post reads, “Thanks for your goodwill words together we will make America great again and restore electoral integrity in Nigeria and across the African continent.” Trump’s alleged reply states he will “restore electoral integrity in Nigeria and across the African continent.”
The claim is inaccurate. The post originated on an account with the handle @TrumpRDonald2. The account’s bio does claim to be an authentic account for Trump. “The Official Campaign account of @realDonaldTrump the 45th and 47th President of the United States of America. Make America Great Again.”
However, Trump’s authentic twitter account has the handle @realDonaldTrump. Trump’s account features 95.5 million followers. There is no such statement on his authentic account. The Team Trump X account is also connected to the Trump campaign and does not have a record of this post either.
Goodluck Jonathan, who was Nigeria’s president between 2010-2015, did congratulate Trump on his election win with the same X post featured in the claim. (RELATED: Facebook Post Claims Trump Has Banned Same-Sex Marriage In All 50 States)

This is not the first time misinformation circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim an Army Lieutenant Colonel resigned over Trump’s nominee for Treasury Secretary.
