This post is inaccurate, however. Germany has not closed its borders, but rather instated random checks on its borders with five Western European nations in an attempt to cut down on illegal immigration, according to AP News.
“This is not correct. What is correct is that starting Monday, 16 September 2024, checks at all of Germany’s land borders will be temporarily reintroduced,” a spokesperson for the German Embassy Washington, D.C. told Check Your Fact via email. The spokesperson referred Check Your Fact to a press release from the Federal Ministry of the Interior states that Germany is implementing random checks on its borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, which became effective on Sept. 16.
